Located within a compact neighbourhood of single-family homes, this long and narrow plot presented an exciting design challenge: creating a contemporary home that offers a bright, functional, and comfortable living environment for a family of four while making the most of the site's unique characteristics.
The house is positioned in the north-eastern part of the plot, allowing the southern and south-western areas to remain open as landscaped garden space. This arrangement maximises natural daylight, opens the living areas towards the sun, and creates beautiful views of the surrounding greenery.
One of the defining architectural features is the cantilevered western façade, which forms a sheltered entrance while simultaneously creating a partially covered terrace. To ensure year-round comfort and complete sun protection, the outdoor living area is complemented by a timber pergola, adding warmth and a natural character to the overall design.
The house is based on the timeless form of a symmetrical gable roof, reinterpreted through a contemporary architectural approach. By recessing the southern volume, a generous roof overhang is created, providing natural shading during the summer months while allowing the low winter sun to penetrate deep into the interior. In addition to improving the home's energy performance, the overhang protects the façade from the elements and enhances year-round living comfort.
